Technical Tip - Renishaw Error Unable to Set Active Calibration




TECH TIP – RENISHAW UNABLE TO SET ACTIVE CALIBRATION 

When the user is attempting to Set the active tool Calibration, the Renishaw UCC Server may go into an error state, giving the two errors shown on the right:   

The possible cause of the errors are; 

  1. The calibration process was run at too slow a speed; the calibration should be run at 100%.
  2. Probe in the wrong state.
  3. Attempting to use the incorrect scanning or probing module for the current machine type.

Correcting the Errors

  1. From the Commands tab, Start a Session in the UCC server.
  2. From the Commands tab, Home the machine.


  1. From the Machine tab, right-click on RefTool select Clear Calibration.
  1. Right-click on the RefTool and select Set.
  2. If no error, proceed to step (4); if error returns, proceed to step (6)
  1. Right-click on the active tool and select Calibrate.
  2. For each tool in the Tools column, repeat steps 3-4 but ensure you are Calibrating the active tool, not the RefTool, each time.

If an error is still present:

  1. Right-click and Set NoTool followed by reselecting the tool required should overcome the issue. UCC Server can usually resolve the issue automatically.
  1. Check to ensure the correct module type is being used (SM25-2 Scanning module) with an (SP-25 Head).
  2. After ensuring all is correct, repeat steps 3-4
